Karly graduated from Nazareth College with her Masters in Physical Therapy in 2003, and began work at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation in NYC from 2003-2006. She pursued an opportunity in Bethesda, MD, where she was continue her dream job of practicing Pilates-based rehabilitation in a private outpatient orthopedic setting. Karly has had extensive training in manual physical therapy (including myofascial release, strain counterstrain, myokinetic alignment restoration, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, postural restoration with emphasis on breathing, acupressure, and PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) and has found that incorporating Pilates-based exercises with manual therapy and postural alignment retraining has been the key to treating clients with chronic pain, overuse injuries, and pain from postural imbalance.
In the last couple of years. Her manual therapy work over the last couple years have led her to a certification in manual lymphatic drainage, and she will continue her work and studies as an airway and cranial-facial therapist. "Discovering the lymphatic system has become my end game, and I am finally ready to share my work more publically as so much of my education and seeking answers to optimal airway and core connection makes sense, now that I see the body through the lens of the lymphatic system. Treating that first, resets the nervous system, which deepens the breath and airway, leading to more effective manual techniques. I've always focused on full-body functional movement patterns, but now any joint, fascia, and muscle restrictions become extremely clear once the body resets, and gets air. I can now inhibit what needs to be turned off, and re-train what needs to be turned on and integrate proper patterns back into the whole body for optimal efficiency!"
Karly has developed her physical therapy practice around accessing faulty movement and breathing patterns in the human body, and using manual therapy techniques, neuromuscular re-education, and instructing clients in postural corrective strategies to increase the body awareness in her clients. Karly believes the more her clients understand about the human body and their systems, the more success and control they will have over their bodies. She wants her clients to succeed in overcoming the chronic pain and injuries that have been holding them back in life. Her goal is to help her clients connect their minds to their bodies, develop more efficient movement patterns and postural awareness so ultimately they can live a better quality, more fulfilling, active, injury-free life.
